Her agent rejected the script in an hour. Her son saved it. How Pamela Anderson earned her first Golden Globe nomination at 57.

A Canada Day Baby From a Small Town

Pamela Anderson was born on July 1, 1967, in Ladysmith, British Columbia. It was the day Canada turned 100. In 1989, at 22, she was shown on the stadium screen at a BC Lions football game wearing a Labatt beer T-shirt. Labatt hired her as a model that year, and fame came fast.

From 1992 to 1997, she played lifeguard C.J. Parker on Baywatch, which became a worldwide hit. She was famous everywhere, but rarely treated as a serious actress.

A Theft That Followed Her for Decades

In October 1995, a fired electrician took a safe from the Malibu home she shared with Tommy Lee. Inside was a private tape. It spread across the world without her consent. In 1997, a judge threw out the couple’s privacy lawsuit against a magazine that had printed images from it. Later that year, worn down by the legal fight, they signed away the tape’s copyright just to end it.

In 2022, Hulu released Pam & Tommy, a series based on the theft. She had no part in it. She later said she had blocked the tape out of her life just to survive.

Taking Back the Story

That same year, she made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Then, on January 31, 2023, Netflix released Pamela, a Love Story, at the same time as her memoir, Love, Pamela.

Director Gia Coppola watched the documentary and wanted her for The Last Showgirl, a film about an aging Las Vegas dancer. Anderson’s agent turned the script down within an hour and never told her.

Coppola didn’t give up. She reached Anderson’s son Brandon through mutual friends, and he handed the script to his mother.
